Shining Technology intros CitiDISK SSD at NAB 2008

32GB Solid State Disk recorder for DV workflows

By John Virata

Shining Technology showcased at NAB 2008 what it calls the smallest and lightest solid state hard disk drive for DV editing workflows. Dubbed the CitiDISK SSD, the 32GB device weighs just six ounces and is the company's first product in the Solid State disk format.

CitiDISK SSD is battery operated with either an internal battery supply that offers up to three hours of recording time, or an external supply that offers up to six hours of recording time. The CitiDISK SSD enables DV editors to record seamlessly to disk, bypassing the digitizing, capturing or ingesting (take your pick) chores associated with tape based workflows. The CitiDISK is shipping now and is available for $1800.

Shining Technology also announced Beetle DV 1850S, a lightweight and portable transcoding device that will give tape-based analog camcorders new life by offering analig-to-digital video conversion.  The company says that Beetle can convert most widely used analog video signals to FireWire DV signals. It will also convert FireWire AV/C control protocols to and from RS232/422. It is expected to ship at the end of 2008 with no pricing determined. For more information, visit www.shining.com
